What is it?

The Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) for Bus Technicians is offered jointly by WSG and the bus operator- SBS Transit Ltd (SBST). The PCP aims to train Professionals, Managers, Executive and Technicians (PMETs) with the necessary competencies to join the Public Transport Sector and embark on a career as Bus Technicians with SBST.

About the Job and Career Progression

Bus Technicians perform routine and assigned bus servicing and preventive corrective maintenance tasks of the bus fleet as well as the different bus sub-systems. Bus Technicians are also required to handle general housekeeping of workshop tools and equipment. They may be deployed to support on-the-road bus breakdown assistance and recovery.

Bus Technicians may attain relevant acquired experience and skills to become Technical Specialists or to take on management roles in the workshop.

Programme Structure and Certification

Under the PCP, participants will undergo a 6-month structured training comprising external training coupled with a blend of WSQ, in-house facilitated learning and On-the-Job training by SBST.

Who can apply?

The PCP candidate should:

  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident;
  • Be at least 21 years old;
  • Have at least 2 years of working experience or have graduated/completed; National Service for at least 2 years; and
  • Not in a similar job role prior to joining the PCP.

PCP-specific Pre-requisites:

  • Have a NITEC or higher academic qualification in any field, preferably Engineering/Electronics/IT;
  • Physically and medically fit;
  • Able to identify colours; and

Able to perform rotating shifts.

How does it work?

Applications will be routed to SBST for a review and shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates will undergo SBST’s hiring process. Successful candidates will be employed full-time, before undergoing a 6-month training programme sponsored by WSG and SBST, comprising:

  1. Facilitated Training (At least 180 hours); and
  2. On-the-Job training (440 hours)

The training includes Public Transport Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) supported courses, and the Automotive Technology for Bus Technician Bridging Programme by ITE and the Singapore Bus Academy (SGBA).
